• DISTANCE LEARNING GRADING GUIDELINES

    The Academy of Dallas Principal shall ensure that each campus and instructional level develops guidelines for teachers to follow in determining grades for scholars. These guidelines shall ensure that grading reflects a scholar’s relative mastery of an assignment and that a sufficient number of grades are taken to support the grade average assigned. Guidelines for grading shall be clearly communicated to scholars and parents.

    In accordance with this policy, the following guidelines have been established.

    Purpose of Grading

    At Academy of Dallas Charter School, grades are a measure of scholars’ mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.  Grades communicate academic progress and provide timely feedback to scholar and parents.

    Grading Roles and Responsibilities

    Scholars

    • To take ownership and responsibility for his/her performance.
    • To communicate with the teacher when he/she does not understand.
    • To be an active learner.

    Parent/Guardian

    • Initiate communication with the teacher when concerns arise, or support is needed.
    • To assist with establishing a work environment conducive to distance learning.
    • To provide appropriate level of support for the scholar, stay current with communicating with teacher regarding the scholar’s grades.

    Teacher

    • To communicate expectations, both regular and long term.
    • To provide opportunity for feedback.
    • To enter grades into the online grade book according to guidelines.

    Campus Administration

    • To ensure that teachers understand the guidelines.
    • To monitor and support the guidelines.
    • To provide feedback to teachers concerning practices relating to the guidelines.

     Grading Practices

    • All grading practices used by teachers has been approved by campus administration and clearly communicated in writing to scholars and parents.

    PRE-K - 8 Grading Guidelines

    • Pre-K scholars will continue to earn grades of E (Excellent), S (Satisfactory) and N (Needs Improvement) for English Language Arts/Reading, Math, Social Studies and Science.
    • Scholars in K- 2nd Grade will earn number grades for English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education.
    • Scholars in 3rd–8th Grade will earn number grades for English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education.

    Required Number of Grades

    • PreK-2nd- No less than 8 grades and No more than 10 grades per subject during the sixth six weeks grading period (April 13-June 4.)
    • 3rd-8th- No less than 10 grades and No more than 12 grades per subject during the sixth six weeks grading period (April 13-June 4.)
